In 1989, at the age of 25, Jim became the youngest artist in history to win the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp Contest. His second, in 1994, not only took first prize but he set a new record by receiving a perfect judges score as well as the distiguished People's Choice Award. In 1998, Jim captured top honors for the third time receiving a perfect judges score once again. Jim is only the second artist in competition history to win three times.

Accuracy attention to detail and dramatic impact are all characteristics that set Jim Hautman's work apart from other artists. Hautman's decision to paint wildlife can be traced to his parents.

"My dad," says Hautman, "was a great sportsman. Much of what I know about nature I learned from him. He instilled in me an appreciation and awareness of the outdoors." My mother is an artist, and she encouraged me to pursue and art c

areer. Painting wildlife seemed to be the natural choice for me"
